Vocal Music
Our Philosophy
Gilbert High School offers a non-auditioned 9/10 Choir and a non-auditioned 11/12 Choir. Both are performance-based ensembles that sing a minimum of four concerts per year, as well as the IHSMA Large Group Contest. Students in both choirs have the opportunity to participate in vocal lessons and the IHSMA Solo and Ensemble Contest. All high school choir students are eligible to audition for the Iowa All-State Chorus in the fall. Additionally, 9th grade students may audition for the ICDA Opus Honor Choir. Tiger Voices, an auditioned jazz choir for 11th and 12th grade choir members, rehearses and performs contemporary a cappella and jazz repertoire. Auditions for Tiger Voices take place each spring.
Gilbert Middle School has non-auditioned performance-based choirs in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. The choirs perform three concerts yearly and may have additional opportunities to share their music as other events arise. GMS choral students have the opportunity to audition for both the ICDA Opus Honor Choir and the ICDA Central District Honor Choir. For more enrichment opportunities, we offer a vocal jazz choir in the spring that meets during WIN time. And for variety, our 8th grade choir presents a musical annually in the spring.
